1) What motivated you to turn an idea/experience into fiction? There are people every yauthor knows, friends or acquaintances who are in real life possible “fictional characters.” For me, writing fiction is all about characters. Once I turned my two college chums, twins, into fictional characters, I knew I could build a plot around them.
Hi Tom, I recently listened to and greatly enjoyed your interview Chronicle Podcast hosted by Total SF hosts Heather Knight and Peter Hartlaub. I so enjoyed hearing your story before and after I met you at your Truckee River Book and Tea almost 5 decades ago. I was the owner of the Alta Hotel on West River St. and remember I could see your Richardson House on the hill overlooking downtown Truckee. I recall the poetry reading by poet laureate Gary Snyder who you hosted at the book store. What a wonderful and intimate gathering that was. I’m looking forward to reading THE CASE OF THE ’61 CHEVY IMPALA and have linked your interview and this blog to my friends Paul and Marc Jones who you may remember from Truckee pick up games.
My father in law Larry Pottinger who played for Jefferson High in San Francisco remembered playing against you at Lowell High. I now live in Grass Valley so if you are visiting the foothills please reach out so we can catch up.
Best, Lad Lavicka
